December 2010 Moms

can we talk naps?

A little disappointed because I've always been so regimented with sleep/naps, etc. and A has always been a great sleeper, which I of course attributed to my awesome schedule/consistency that I have instilled :)

Lately he's been so freaking difficult with sleep.  Going to bed at night he has been rolling around in his crib (we haven't transitioned yet, but will in the summer when I'm off) FOREVER before going to sleep.  The other day he didn't fall asleep until a little after 9pm, which is so late for him.  It's a big deal because on work days he has to get up at 6:30 for daycare, so going to sleep that late is clearly not enough sleep, and especially since now he's skipping naps.

Does anyone have any advice?  It just stresses me out to watch him rolling in his crib, not sleeping when I know he needs it.  He's not getting his any teeth, nothing else has changed.  I don't know what to do.

I will implement a quiet time regardless, so am not giving that up.  Which DH says "then why do you care if he sleeps or not!"  Ugh.  I care because then he's miserable in the afternoon, and it sucks.

Last night he did fall asleep at about 7:45, which was a relief.

Sorry, I am just panicked about this and I know I shouldn't be.  I'm trying to relax, and tell myself this is just like feeding him.  I can only offer him a good structure, and it's up to him from that point.  I can't MAKE him sleep.

  • I'm sorry you guys are going through this. Ava went through a two month period in November and December where she refused naps and definitely wasn't getting enough sleep. It was really frustrating. I just kept putting her down anyway and enforcing quiet t

  • Black-out curtains made nap go better for us and an earlier bedtime makes a big difference at night.  N goes down at 6pm on the dot.  If I get him in bed at 6:30, then it's all over for us - he will fight and roll around and talk, etc.

  • Thanks so much!

That makes me feel a ton better.

I'm actually wondering if I pushed bedtime too much.  Sometimes he will nap later, and I feel like if I put him down later, then he will have a harder time.  Maybe I wi

  • I'm sorry...I hope you can find something that works for him.

Kids are so funny...the triplets napped until they were 3, Jericho gave it up around 18 months LOL.

  • We're struggling with naps and bedtime for G.  Since he was STTN at 5 months, his bedtime was 9pm.  This past Christmas and New Years we were at parties and allowed him to stay up later which was a huge mistake.  Since then he has not be

  • I would chalk it up to a phase really. Also they only need 11.5 hours of sleep total for the day now (I just pulled out my HSHHC book recently), so my LO has been taking a 2 hour nap but then her bedtime is 9:30pm - 7:00am.

  • I have nothing to say other than DS was put to bed at 7:30 last night and didn't go to sleep until close to 11. Then he woke up briefly at 2:30. He woke up for good at 7 (usually 6, when he goes to sleep earlier.)

He is taking longer and longer t

  • Sleep has been terrible here since November!  I would love for LO to be asleep by 9 since I have to wake him at 6:15, but it's usually 11. That leaves no alone time :(. Or time with DH.  I am guessing many of these guys are ready to drop the nap
