Am I a snobby biitch?

So last night I get a call from a recruiter who asked me how 'flexible' I am as far as salary. I asked her how 'flexible' is your pay scale. She says the job she has for me is paying 45-50K.
I told her I couldnt do Project Management for that salary. That would be a 30K pay cut for me.
Anyways, one of my coworkers overheard the conversation and asked me for details.
I told her that the salary would be a 30K pay cut.
She says "well, i dont make 60K. Plus we are in a recession and you should consider any job"

I felt bad because I then thought about it and maybe I sounded snobby. But the fact is that I just cannot afford a 30K paycut. DH agrees with this as well.

Am I being a snobby byatch?

    Do you already have a job and are looking for another one?  I understand not being able to take that large of a paycut if you really can't afford it, but if you are not working at all, wouldn't that be better than nothing?  I guess I need more information.

    Absolutely not.  It's one thing if you are desparate and need a gig but sounds like you don't.  It's wonderful your CW would consider that and I would happily supply her with the recruiter info if she was interested.  But you know what you can deal with in your situation.  I have already told recruiters that I wouldn't move for less than a 20% pay raise so I guess I'm snobby too.

    Are you getting laid off?  If so, and your prospects are slim you may need to be more flexible if you need to have an income.  But like a PP wrote, it's hard to say without knowing your situation.

    If you work in an open area like that, I would go somewhere that other people can't hear your conversations in the future if you're discussing salary with recruiters.

    Pay cuts should always be last resort, even if you have lost your job.  

    There are companies that do well in recessions, her theory is flawed and what she makes is irrelevant to your situation.

    You know your worth. Confidence that you can find what you are worth does not = snobby.

    Hi. The situation is that my contract is ending at the end of December.
    I am actively searching and saving money.  When I spoke to DH about a pay cut he stated that that would not be feasible BUT in the event that I am unable to find a job by Feb. then I would just take whatever comes along (with a pay cut).

    I don't think that you're being a snobby biitch.

    But I think that you might be getting a cold hard dose of reality very soon.  A 30k paycut is better than a 80k paycut, don't you think? 

    If no other job offers come your way (and considering that the country is officially in a recession, the possibility isn't farfetched), how hard will you kick yourself in the_ass for turning down this offer?

    I couldn't afford it either.  The only way it would work is if I didn't have to put my kids in daycare or something.  I don't think you should take a job that doesn't compensate you what you need.  It's not like we're talking about $2k or something either.

    A $30k pay cut is a lot of money.  Plus I think it sets you up at a lower starting salary for any future jobs.  It's something I would consider at a very last result and only if I felt the job would be a better career move.  I was laid off a couple months ago and am looking right now.  I'm probably being more picky that I should be, but I want this next job to be a positive career move, not something that's going to move me back into a field that I hated in the past.

    From one Project Manager to another.... I wouldn't work for 45-50 either!!  (Unless of course I had no other choice) :)

    Don't feel bad.  I'm sure you worked hard to get to where you are making what you are, I know I did and I don't feel bad for doing so!
