To me, Marlowe is a last name. It also sounds kind of masculine. If you like Marley, I would just use that as the full name. Marley isn't too bad, but it does make me think of the dog.
I knew an LO named Marlee.. I have to be honest, it did make me think of the dog. But I'm sure people will forget about that movie soon, I can't even think of the actual title of the movie now.
When my niece was born and we found out she was a Marlee, I 100% thought of the dog. But at this point I associate the name with her and not the dog anymore.
It would never be my first choice though. However I do not like the spelling Marlo

I like it but don't like the nickname.
This for me.
I don't care much for the name Marley or Marlowe
Though, I don't mind Marley. I associate that name more with the Glee character than the dog.

Do you watch the show Psych? That is what it reminds me of (Kristy Swanson, the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer, players a character named Marlowe).
On another note, if you are not watching this show, you should be. It's

I like Marlowe, but not Marley. I've never liked the sound or look of the name, and it does remind me of the sad dog story.
Marlowe is nice (no NN!), and I'd use a nice, feminine MN.
