Babies: 6 - 9 Months

reflux med question

For those giving their LO meds for reflux at what age will they stop taking it? We have been giving our LO zantac since 5 months he is now 7 months . It seemed to help that 1st month and then we were having issues again at 6months and his dose was increased but he still doesn't seem any better. What kind of formula do you feed your reflux baby? We just can't seem to find the right combo of meds and formula that agree with our LO. We use Gerber gentle and our Dr. said not to keep switching because it is hard on them. We have used Nutramigan and Neocate prior to this. I just want him better and off the meds all together.

Re: reflux med question

  • From other moms I have talked to about reflux, zantac usually works at first but then seems to stop working like you described.  Do talk to your doc about it.  DS started zantac when he was a month old.  It worked for about 6 weeks.  B

  • DD started zantac around 3 wks and it only worked for a few wks. Instead of upping the dose bc she has a severe case her pedi switched her to prevacad. She also went from enfamil to gerber gentle to nutragimen all before a month too. We were sent to a ped

  • We took DS1 off Prevacid after 5 months and his feeding regressed 2 months later.  We had also stopped occupational/feeding therapy which was a mistake.  I am leaving DS2 on Prevacid for a LONG TIME.  DS1 had silent reflux and we didn't

  • In my experience reflux meds generally dont help with the actual vomiting part, they mainly help with the pain that is associated with it.

There are 2 main categories of kids w/ reflux, angry spitters and happy spitters.  Angry

  • Is their a 3rd category for silent reflux?  Our only clue was that he began coming off the bottle and refusing it.  No spit up at all.  And we were stupid and didn't know, so we only found out when he stopped drinking altogether and we took

  • The reason my son is on meds is because he is an angry spitter and cries and refuses the bottle. I tried everything before accepting that he needed medication.
