Formal Dress Shopping

My husband is getting a HUGE award. (Side note: I am insanely proud and excited for him I can't stop bragging.) The ceremony is incredibly formal. He has to wear his dress blues and I need a dress. There aren't any stores in my area that have appropriate dresses, they're all too promy.

Any suggestions on good sites that might have something that will work?

Shabby apple has adorable dresses but they might not be formal enough.

Gilt usually has designer dresses and I've seen formal ones there.

Davids bridal sells formal dresses (not just bridesmaid and wedding)

I haven't used it but I've heard good things about rent the runway. It's all online and you can rent designer dresses for reasonable prices and then send it back. Might be a good option if you don't want to buy a fancy dress.

Try Nordstrom.com, check both the Formal dresses (you'll have to scroll to get past the prom-y stuff) as well as the Bridesmaid section. You could probably find a very nice, elegant dress there. Shipping is free and their return policy is amazing. Their s
