Pacifier ?

Does your LO still have a pacifier?

Have you begun attempting to get rid of it?

If you have successfully weaned them from it can you give me some tricks that aren't cold turkey? The Kid will NOT sleep without one 95% of the time... so cold turkey isn't going to work for us.

We have limited it to only sleep times and in the car, but the last 2 weeks she's been cutting 4 teeth, and we've been more lax with it because she gnaws on it when she's teething and gets irrationally pisssed if you take it away.  Car rides are pure hell without it, today was the WORST we went to a going away dinner for my brother (He's moving to NJ for a job in NYC) it's a 2 hour trip one way, she was horrendous in the car, the sun was in her eyes no matter where we moved the shade, and she refused to wear her sunglasses.  Ugh. We need a new system.  I'd love any advice, or commiseration TIA!

Re: Pacifier ?

  • Lo will scream at night and naptime without it. If she wakes up in the middle of the night she doesn't need it and during the day she only wants it at naptime and in the car. I'm trying to wean but the screaming with the coughing and gagging kills me.

  • This is one of those things I've decided to let ride for the time being. She only gets it at bed and nap times - no walking around with it. I figure she's not using it too much, she can say a ton of words just fine so it's not delaying her speech, and the

We're at the same point as you: she has it for sleeping and in the car.  Quite honestly, I'm not concerned about it and not trying to get her to stop any time soon.  It's not hurting anything for her to have it, she sleeps better and travels bet

  • We still use it and I don't really plan on weaning her...I will let her do it on her own.  She doesn't want it at night or nap, she just pops it in around the house when she is moody.  I do bring it to music class because she is a monster wit

  • B still uses his for naps and bed time I know that he doesn't want to give it up and I have been thinking about weaning, but I figure if it is just at night and he spits it out once he falls asleep so for now I am just gonna let it be. His DCP has stopped

  • Yes we still use it and have no plans on getting rid of it anytime soon.  Until he sleeps better I have no plans to get rid of his pacifier or his bottle.

  • We have almost completely gotten rid of it. At 11mo, we only allowed it in her bed. Then all of a sudden she became obsessed about it and would throw the biggest fits ever! I finally had enough and grabbed all of them, snipped the end of the nipple with s

  • Oh I feel so much better that everyone seems to be in about the same boat.  My family is pressuring me to take it away, I don't think she's ready. It's nice to know we're not behind the 8 ball on this.  Thanks all for answering!!

  • Yes, she still has her Pacifier. I don't plan on taking it away totally until we are through most of the teething as she likes to chew on it and refuses to chew on any actual teethers.

Right now she usually only gets it if she is napping or at ni
