Floatations

It is almost beach or pool season! WOO HOO!

Will you buy your LO a flotation vest or swim suit that has one built in?

We had a pool in my backyard growing up where I learned to swim without one. My nephew swam in the same pool, but my sister had him in a vest! The vest gave my nephew a sense of autonomy and built his water confidence; he is now an excellent swimmer.

I am stuck! To float or not to float?

    I have actually heart that it is safer not to teach them to swim with any type of flotation because it gives them a false sense of security. They might dive into a pool on their own thinking that they will float.

    Max will always wear a lifejacket on the lake. I'm not sure about the pool yet.

    They make those floats now where you can take off layers of foam to provide less and less floatation as kids get more and more confident in their swimming abilities, and I think we might get DD one of those.  Our learn to swim program at the YMCA,

    We tried a baby life jacket last summer and that creating angry Nina!  I have a vest for this year that we'll use up at the lake.  I'd like something so we can be around my folks pool but want to first have her learn to swim without a vest so

    As an ex lifeguard and swim instructor I also vote mo to vests in pools. Absolutely need them at lakes or rivers though. And ditto teaching water safety at this age. If you get flotation devices make it a vest or suit, just not the arm floties. Those don'

    L uses a puddle jumper. The minimum weight is 30lbs. Our pool only allows floatation devices if they are approved by the coast guard.
