Newborn photos - worth it?

I am trying to decide whether to have newborn photos done, and am pretty much out of time at this point - a decision needs to be made because he is almost not a newborn anymore.  Anyway, I was shocked to learn how expensive these shoots are, and am interested in hearing from others who have had them done, either with this LO or another.  Are they really worth the price?  Would you do it again? TIA!

Re: Newborn photos - worth it?

  • I went to JC penney. It was cheap compared to a private photographer. Images came out ok. Probably would have got more if LO wasn't crying the whole time.

  • I used The Picture People (not sure if they have those by you) and they came out good.  I had a coupon which was mailed to me.  They have a website if you want to look them up www.picturepeople.com .

  • I think so.  I didnt do them with my first and I regretted it, so I did them with my second.

  • Yes, we hired a professional newborn photographer. She brought and used a bunch of cute props. Our photos were taken a week after she was born and they are all of her "sleeping." I don't care for the places like picture people/sears, ect as they are more
  • We are doing them on Monday with our wedding photographer. It's pricey, but I figure it is worth capturing this age. Our package includes an album and prints for us and the grandparents.

  • We didnt' do them with DS1 and won't with DS2 either.  I don't regret it-- but I'm also not really into all that cutesy stuff either.  I take a lot of pics with our camera, which is a DSLR so I feel pretty good about how we've captured our boys.
  • Our hospital did some newborn pictures. We only bought one. Sadly I was in bad shape with a fourth degree tear so we didn't take many photos ourselves at all. A few days later when we got home we tried to take newborn photos ourselves but he was not havin

  • I waited/procrastinated it and just got my sons done at 6 weeks. I'm really glad that I did, with waiting so long we got a lot of him awake and then he fell asleep at the end..so we got newborn-y pictures too. I also had her take some with me and dh. My m

  • Ideally, you want to do NB photos in the first week, but if your's is still pretty sleepy, I'd go for it.  We did DS's when he was alittle over a week old and he was WIDE awake the whole time and they came out just ok.  We did DD's when

  • We did.  I wasn't too keen on it but my husband wanted them so we did...and now that we've got the proofs I am so glad we did.  Our photographer said between 5-10days old is the best as baby is so sleepy they can be posed.  After that it

  • Thanks ladies!  I think I will go for it - less likely to have regrets that way. :)

  • We have a really good camera and did our own.  They came out pretty good and saved us several hundred dollars.  We aren't big into professional pics in general though.

  • Definitely worth it. I know a lot of people who didn't get it done and regretted it. I love mine!! DD was about 2-3 weeks old when we had it done.

I used a professional photographer and they were great. She took some of DD awake, some

  • We attempted to get some done at 8 days old, but LO wanted no part of it.  We got through 1 outfit and then she started screaming.  I've already paid the photographer, so she's going to come back in a few weeks.  She won't be newborn anymor
