NTTGPR: Organizing a bachelorette party question

I am the "Lady of Honor" for my BF's wedding and am hosting her Bachelorette party next month.  We are traveling about 2.5h away, staying in a lakeside house, going on a wine tour and then having a catered dinner back at the rental property.  I am concerned about finances, as the bride invited 42! people, and at least 20 are coming.  I was very upfront about cost with initial emails but am wondering if there is a graceful/tactful way to ask for money up front (before the event)?  I already paid $800 for the rental property, it will be another $800 for the limo and I don't yet have a catering quote but expect several hundred at least for that as well.

Have any of you been to a Bach party where you had to pay up front?  How was it handled?  Or any experiences organizing such a big event?

Sorry for the long post and thanks for your input!

Re: NTTGPR: Organizing a bachelorette party question

  • I don't think there is anything wrong with asking for the money in advance. You can't be expected to cover everything for that many people. The money was collected up front for almost all of the bachelorette parties that I have been to.

  • I agree, every one that I have attended, we have gotten an email in advance from the person hosting saying, okay, here's going to be the cost per person. I think it's totally normal, in my opinion.

  • I have been to several extravagant bachelorette parties and planned a couple myself as well. I think it is a good idea to "lock people in" to have everyone send you money in advance. Everyone should understand that you are not a money tree and may

  • For my friend's bachelorette party, we had to pay most of it upfront (as we were staying in a condo for a long weekend). I don't see any problem doing it. We created a spreadsheet of the expenses and asked each person to contribute x amount. It worked out
