Adoption is such a heated topic, and I have no idea why. I get told all the time horror adoption stories where people sent tons of $ and ended up with no kid. Or I hear how the children are hellions and are going to ruin our lives, our children's lives and our financial stability.
The boy we are adopting is blind - so that just starts a whole other wonderful array of replies. He will always live with us (or so we are told). We will always have to take care of him. He is going to be such a burden.
It seems that so many people are against adoption. I just don't get it. Then there is the wonderful international adoption versus domestic adoption. We are adopting internationally because we fell in love with this little guy who isn't in the US. But a lot of people don't like that we're doing IA and say we should help a kid from the US.
Venting over - all I know is that there are millions of children in need of families, and I want to help one child, maybe more some day.
Re: Vent
I never knew how many people were opposed to adoption until we started our process. I still can't understand it.
Now I understand that many are simply ill-informed and/or have no desire to change their views based on new information.
How timely. This was on my FB feed today:

I was surprised, too, by the negativity about adoption. I had no idea that there were people who were so against adoption or ignorant about how to talk about it. I actually wrote a blog post about it last year.

I'm sorry. Family members are the ones who should be the most supportive of you, but sometimes they end up being the least supportive. It doesn't make it right though--some people are very selfish.

People can be such as*holes. They may not mean to be, but ignorant comments hurt; how sad is it that we have to steel ourselves against the comments when they are in the wrong?! Drives me batty.
