middle schoolers denied food...

https://www.delish.com/food/recalls-reviews/kids-denied-school-lunch

I'm not sure if I'm on my period or what but this story made me cry. Kids who already had the lunch in hand were made to throw it out, even after they offered to share with another kid who didn't have a lunch.

wtf mean a$s lunch lady!?!

Re: middle schoolers denied food...

  • The fact that she made them throw out perfectly good food is disgusting. Clearly it wasn't about raising funds if she was willing to waste food. Bizzo.

  • That person should absolutely be fired.  When you're dealing with the health and well being of a person, especially a child, you don't get to screw up your understanding of the policies.

  • This pisses me off! DD's school lunch account has run dry a few times, and they still feed her. Instead of throwing the food away, why not let the child eat it? Maybe she has a parent who has lost a job, and didn't fill out the school lunch paperwork at t

  • That's terrible.

I don't know how other states operate, but in Louisiana free and reduced lunch are offered to families that need assistants.  They just fill out the paperwork through the school.

  • At the school I worked at, which had a very low income population, kids who ran out of money were given a PBJ or cheese sandwich, a piece of fruit, and a milk. No one ever went hungry becausethey couldn't pay. That's just cruel.

  • Obviously the children should have been fed.  However I think it is ridiculous that this is making national news.  I would have called the principal  and made sure it did not happen again.  I would not call the media.    I

  • At our old school if there wasn't money in your account they would fill out a slip that stated how much money was owed to the account and send it home with you. They kept a log for themselves as well. If you had a weeks worth of lunch due to your account

  • Our kids get a cheese sandwich if they overdraft their lunch account; however, its not usually known until the kid gets to the register.  I have seen them take "good" food away and replace it, where I imagine its trashed.

  • Holy crap.. this just made me really sad. How could anyone make a kid throw away perfectly good food and go hungry? I would probably lose my job for giving away food to the kids that couldn't pay.

  • Oh, at the end of the year, our district (despite being title 1) usually has a big bill (5 digits) that the district is left with (I assume its written off) due to allowing kids to borrow lunch money a few times.  Some parents just never pay, which i
