  They have websites here, but we prefer people we know like the lady from daycare or the teenage daughter across the street :

  DH and I are mentors for a Christian group at the university in our town. When we needed a babysitter, we asked two of the girls in the leadership team if either of them were interested.

  I joined an international moms group in town.  Its been a great way to meet other families with kids, buy second hand gear and get recs for all sorts of kid related stuff.

  I joined an Expat group and have gone off recommendations from other moms in that group. We also are members of a gym that has a creche and I have sitter that we use frequently that works there.
