I'm looking at my students' "Getting to Know You" questionnaires where they tell me a bit about themselves the first day of class:

I help with babysitting when family members need it as I believe strongly children should be taken care of by family and not in a daycare if preventable. 

She's entitled to her opinion, but yikes. Where does she think her professors' kids probably are? Big Smile

    College age kids/adults are wonderful, but they don't always think through the things they say.  Actually, no matter what age people are, they don't always think through the things they say.

    The average student age at my college is 32 :-) So, I think the second hypothesis of yours is correct.

    Judgmental much?  As long as the kid is being taken care of and treated with affection it doesn't matter to me if it's family or not.
