Toy help!

Play kitchens are on of Bo's favorite items to play with! I have my eye on a brick oven pizza kitchen that I know he would love. My question is, how long will he like it? Is it a toddler thing and when he turns 4 he will be too cool or not interested?

What is the toy you have that has the longest "life span" with your LO or in your experience with other kids?

Also? Does anyone think the Thomas the train set and accessories is worth the big bucks?

  • The kitchen we have has been a timeless toy. They have a kitchen in her preschool which the boys regularly play with. So, I can only tell you up to age five.

We have the motorized Thomas trains and track, which I bought L when she was in a train

  • I think the kitchen would be a good investment. I was at a friends home and her daughter who is 5 was stil playing with her Little Tikes kitchen.
  • I think the train table is a no brainer. Plus when he's too cool for trains he can flip the board of the table over and use the surface for Legos. My nephews are into this stage now. Just don't glue down the tracks. Half the fun is LOs taking it apart, a

  • It all depends on the child.  DD played with the kitchen until she was four then lost interest when her imagination started to go strong and Barbies and My Little Ponies turned into the "in" thing...which are still huge around here.  DS#1 used t

  • N likes her play kitchen (its a simple one by Melissa and Doug) and is starting to use it more.  She LOVES matchbox cars and drawing with markers or crayons so I feel those items are also timeless and not expensive.  She also loves her Ikea p

  • Based on my kids and my time in daycare/as a teacher, the kitchen is a great long-term toy. Our kitchen is second only to dress up clothes and baby dolls at our house :)

Also agree with the table and chairs suggestion, and I think a lot of outdoo

I am kicking and screaming buying all of these high ticket, but, long lasting toys! I really want to get Bo some outdoor toys, but with all of the renovations we will not be outs

  • If you're thinking of getting trains, look at the ones from Ikea.  They seem to be the same quality as all the others I've seen, but they're SO MUCH CHEAPER.  We got DD a set for Christmas that came with a figure-8 shape track and 4 train cars f

  • My almost 6 year old still loves his kitchen, and his 9 year old cousin plays with it when he visits too.  The type of play changes over time, but it still gets used.

They have one in all the K classrooms at Sam's school too.
