Toddlers: 24 Months+

Lurker with a question

Hi Ladies! I was just lurking on your board and was wondering if you wouldn't mind giving me your opinion. My DS is 15 months and we just found out we are expecting baby #2 in December, two weeks before DS turns two.

I'm not sure how to handle the room and bed situation. We plan to keep DS's room as the nursery and move DS into the other bedroom. The new baby will sleep in our room for probably the first 6 months. My question is when is the best time to move DS into his new room? At two years old will he likely be ready for a toddler bed or will he need to be in the crib for a bit longer? Is it better to move him before the baby arrives or when the baby is ready to go into the nursery?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA

  • It really depends on him. My cousin has her son in his own at 2 but he's still in a crib becaus he hates the toddler bed.

My son has his own room with his own bed but from time to time will still run into my room.

Thank you both for the responses. I really wanted to try and make the switch without causing him to feel like the baby was taking his room/crib. So maybe what I'll do is let him help me decorate his room a few months before the baby arrives and put the

  • Every kid is different, but I can tell you what worked for us (my girls are 19 months apart):

DD1 stayed in the nursery, DD2 was in our room. When DD1 was 23 months, she moved to a toddler bed in a new bedroom. We made the move all at once, rip o
