Breastfeeding Advice HELP please!

I need some help/advice/suggestions! I wrote in a previous post that breastfeeding isn't going well (I am not making enough milk and Miles is also a lazy eater, so he won't suck hard to stimulate more milk production). I have started fenugreek, Mother's milk, and am drinking a dark beer every day to help with production. I'm not sure if it's helping, but I am going to keep going. I am also waking up at night to pump so that I am nursing/pumping at least every 3-4 hours. I have no milk left in reserves, so he ends up going hungry because he downright refuses formula. I have tried a couple of types, but I just don't think he likes the taste. At this point I am getting nervous about him losing weight. He has reflux on top of this and was already in a lower % weight at his last appointment due to the spitting up. Anyone have any ideas? I'm pretty much willing to try anything... Oh and I did hear of a formula that is supposed to be closest to breastmilk (Aptamil) but it is not sold in the US only the UK. UK mommas- have you heard of it? Is it good? I am willing to spend the money to buy and ship it, but would like to hear if anyone has any ideas before I do it...

  • I apologize if I am not remembering your story -- but have you seen an LC?  If you are in the city as per your location identifier, I worked with an LC in the near north 'burbs who was very hepful to me when I had supply issues -- her name is Gail

  • :::hugs:::: breastfeeding is hard in the beginning. Definitely get in touch with a LC if you haven't. Your doctor or hospital can recommend one.

I would encourage nursing often as much ad you can and don't pay attention to the clock just get

  • Ditto all the above! Water, water, water. Nurse, nurse, nurse. I would wake up LO in the middle of the night or do a dream feed instead of pumping. At the same time, make sure you're getting enough rest. Your body needs energy to produce the milk! Oatmeal

  • I agree w/ the above - if you haven't get in touch w/ an LC to help w/ latch and do a weighed feeding - BFing support group could be helpful too.  Definitely make sure you are feeding YOU as well and drinks tons of water - I actually had to force mys

There's some good advice in here already, so I'll just add one more thing: in addition to your other pumping, pump EVERY time you nurse.

DD also had a sucking issue, and the LCs I used early on didn't identify it. They told me to pump OR nu

  • Veil- my plan right now is to try and focus on increasing my supply, so that I won't have to use any formula, but am definitely going to keep supplementing (even minimally if necessary).

  • Water, I drink around 2+ gallons a day and I pump every 4-6 hours. I was doing it every 3 hours and I was pumping around 10+ ounces each time. Now that I am back to work I can't pump as frequent and I am still getting around 10 oz per pump. I hate that it
