Craving smells?

I know that food cravings and aversions are normal, as are aversions to certain smells.  But I'm craving certain smells, in particular lemon and citrus.  Am I the only one?  I have been lucky not to have terrible morning sickness or nausea, but I can't stand gross smells and I've been buying lemon scented cleaning and body products to try to "erase" whatever strong smells are around me.  Pregnancy is weird...I'm 12 weeks into my first.

Re: Craving smells?

  • You might want to get your iron levels checked. Craving smells, or craving non food items like chalk, ice, clay, etc can be a symptom of PICA.

But I hear you on the nasty smells! My refrigerator is not good right now! Blech.

  • I was reading a blog post where the writer said all she wanted to do was put citrus and lemons under her nose because it made her feel better. There must be some connection?

  • Good points.  I just had a blood test yesterday and I'm seeing my midwife next week, so I'll ask.  Thanks for responding!
