MSPI and Nutramigen

LO is 9 weeks and has been on Nutramigen for almost three weeks. After about a week on Nutramigen his stools became mucusy again and after two weeks we found blood for about 3 days straight. Then his diapers were great for three days and now back to much more liquidy and mucusy and this morning just slight blood. The pedi wants us to wait two more weeks and if no improvements then on to Elecare.

Has anyone else experienced this? An lo having blood in the stool on Nutramigen? Do you think it could be that the Nutramigen is too broken down and something like soy might help? I feel like they keep having us wait and see since he is still thriving and growing well. His fussiness at feedings has subsided but he is still spitting up fairly frequently.

  • My son who is 8 weeks had to switch to Nutramigen AA now called Puramino.  He was on regular Nutramigen but continued to have blood in his stool. He is doing much better on the AA. I highly recommend this brand of elemental formula.
  • I don't think that it's a matter of being too broken down.  I think if anything it's still not broken down enough.  Nutramigen is a hyrolysate formula, which means that it is milk based, but the milk protein chains are partially broken down, unl

  • We've had a similar experience.  DD has been on Nutramigen for about 4 weeks now and we had blood this morning after about a week and a half without any.  All other symptoms have subsided and since she is gaining weight our Pedi also suggeste
