Natural Birth

Who lasted 40+ weeks pregnant w/ big baby and did NOT get induced?

Anyone deliver a big baby at 40+ weeks gestation naturally?  I only ask b/c DS is measuring large (I know it's an estimate, but I really think he is big bc I'm so big), and I feel as if he's very content staying put for a while.  I know he may come whenever, but I would love to hear positive birth stories of women with big babies that did NOT get induced and waited for things to progress naturally :)

I think this is on my mind b/c I am 38w6d today, and this is the day my DD was born.

Any encouragement would be GREATLY appreciated!! :)

  • Not sure how big you are thinking, but I had DS at 40w3d and he was 8lb12oz.  Super easy, two pushes and he was out :)

As you said measurements are not very accurate with DS I was consistently measuring a week behind and with DD averaging tw

  • At 38 weeks he was measuring 9lb 2oz with a head in the 99th percentile.  (DH had a big head and was a 10lb baby, born 13 days late.)  DS has been measuring big since the beginning.  I also have a lot of fluid (borderline high) so that's

Well, the last u/s I had before I went into labor was the anatomy scan at 20 weeks. The u/s I had in labor (after going into labor naturally at 40w6d) measured her at 8-8.5 lbs. Didn't know until she was born that she was a 9 pounder and had a head in the

  • I delivered my baby absolutely med free and natural (I guess you could count the three days of acupuncture I had before I went into labor "induction") at 42 weeks and 2 days. She was 8lbs 13oz and she is my first.

    ETA: her head measured 14

  • Yep, ACOG says, "Suspected fetal macrosomia is not an indication for induction of labor, because induction does not improve maternal or fetal outcomes."

  • I was bigger with my first pregnancy than I was with my second.  Turns out I had excessive amniotic fluid and delivered a 7lb5oz baby at 40wks5days (although I was induced due to an office policy to not let anyone go past 41wks).  I was still

I'm not sure what your definition of 'big' is, but my SIL delivered her 3rd daughter completely unmedicated.  She was born at exactly 42 weeks.  She had reluctantly scheduled an induction for that morning (her doctor had been pressuring her to i

  • I don't know what you consider big.  DS2 was 8 lb 5 oz and I had him at 40w5d.

I just had DD2 at 41w6d and she was one ounce shy of nine pounds - my easiest delivery yet.  Her head was in the 99th percentile.

  • 41 weeks, 2 days.  9lbs, 2 oz.  NBD.  She never measured ahead and I never got an ultrasound after 20 weeks, so I had no reason to expect she was big.

Honestly, I didn't consider her "big."  She felt like the right size for me
