Bedsharing is not for us!

I have come to the conclusion that bedsharing just does not work for our family. Between baby's supersonic sense of smell and my supersensitive hearing, we were waking each other up all night! He'd smell the milk, rouse himself out of sleep (which he does during daytime naps too; he sleeps much better and longer by himself), fuss, so I'd nurse him, but he wasn't actually hungry so he'd only nurse for 1-2 minutes before passing out again, then the whole process would start over an hour later. Very frustrating for me and unhealthy for baby since he needs good quality sleep!

So a couple nights ago, I evicted him from our bed and he's only been waking to feed every 3 hours at night, then goes right back to sleep. :) Happy mama, happy baby!

I told my husband that it's like an alcoholic trying to sleep next to a bottle of whiskey. :) He's a milkaholic.

  • LOL @ milkaholic. Congratulations on finding a sleeping situation that works for  your family :) Hopefully you can all start getting some good rest now!

  • My son is a milkaholic, BUT we all sleep better of I don't have to get up to nurse him. He helps himself to the milk at night.

  • It wouldn't work for us either. First of all, we have an INSANELY soft mattress with an attached memory foam-esque top. It;s also older and probably broken because we sink down into the middle; we need a new one, but I can't sleep on anything more firm

  • There are many things I love about AP, but co-sleeping really wasn't one of them.  We tried it for 2 weeks with DD sometimes in a PnP next to our bed and sometimes in our bed, and it was really hard.  Mostly, I would hear her snuffling around

  • Bedsharing worked for us until it didn't. Whatever gets everyone the best sleep!
