So I realize this is super overdue but hey, at least I'm Finally getting to it
So my due date was Nov, 11th and I had had constant contractions the whole third trimester so I had assumed I would go into labor early like I did with DD1 (she was a week early and born on my Grandads birthday) My mom was staying with us to "help" since I had gone into labor at 29 wks and then got kidney stones and was hospitalized for 5 days the following week. My BFF was driving down with her kids on my due date. She called me the day before and was convinced I would have the baby the day before or the day of her son's birthday, which happened to be the 13th. They get here on Monday and I had an appointment with my midwife and nothing was going on. I was planning on taking my little nephew to Chucke Cheese for his birthday which was Tuesday. Tuesday morning I woke up early around 7 and right off the bat started having contractions all in my pelvis. They were always around 10 minutes apart until around 10am when I finally decided to call my midwife. She said to have Dh call into work. Right after my BFF called and said they were all awake and on their way over. I told her she had good timing because I was pretty sure I was in labor! I stopped timing them after they got to about 5 minutes apart. My friend Sarah came over to help out with DD1 but ended up helping get the birthing tub and everything ready. My midwife came over around noon to check on the babies heartbeat then had a few other appointments at the Birth Center. I got into the bathtub trying to relax. The hot water ran out so I decided to get out. I knelt on my birthing ball and rocked for a long time while Dh and Sarah took turns rolling a tennis ball on my lower back, which felt AMAZING! She came back sometime after 2 and decided to check me. I was so worried that I wold only end up being 3cm but was sooooo relieved when she said I was 6cm almost 7
YAY! My midwife decided she was going to run home to take a shower and was back by 3:30. Time sort of slipped away after that and my contractions got pretty intense. I remember telling myself each time a felt my contraction start was 'remember to relax'. So I would drop my head and make the low moan. This works remarkably well by the way
The next thing I know my midwife is telling me "wait mama, just blow" and I realized I was starting to push. I kind of "woke up" at that point because my water broke and it seriously felt like a bomb went off underwater! My midwife jumped on the phone and called the second midwife and told her to hurry since she hadn't showed up yet. She showed up just a few minutes later and babies head was out in four pushes. That's when I knew she was stuck. I could just feel she was stuck. My midwife helped my get on my hands and knees. Still nothing. After a minute or two she finally came out. Perfect and beautiful.
Iris was born at 5:17pm weighing 7lbs 9oz and 21 1/2 inches long, and on her cousin's 5th birthday! DD1 and my nephew were standing in the bedroom door the whole time. They both ran in and DD1 said "Yay! BABY!" then ran out to watch her cartoon. Ha hahaha! Then my nephew walked up and wrapped his little arms around me and gave me a kiss and the cheek and said "Thank you". Gah I love that kid
Needless to say he loved his birthday present. We sat in the tub for a good ten minutes just cuddling, looking at her poor little blue face thanks to being smooshed. We let the cord stop pulsing before we cut it and my placenta took it's time coming out. My midwife handed Iris to Dh to try to keep her warm. I tugged on the cord slightly and delivered the placenta and handed it to my midwife. She remarked how she loved it when a mama delivers her own placenta
It was finally time to get out of the pool and I knew I had torn and my midwife seemed to be getting concerned with how much blood was in the tub. I stood up and blood was running down my legs to I knew it was bad. I got onto my bed and started nursing Iris. The midwives did all their checks on Iris and she was perfect. Then they decided that after looking at my tear, that we would have to go to OB triage. We got up to get ready and my midwife helped me into the bathroom. The next thing I know I'm hearing the second midwife say "yes we need an ambulance at" and the she left the room. I had passed out. Only for about 30 seconds according to my midwife, but it was long enough. The ambulance came and loaded me up. Dh and Sarah followed in the car with Iris. The doctors decided I had a 4th degree tear and would have to go into surgery to repair it. I finally got into surgery a little after midnight and was out about half an hour later. I was released around noon that day and it was soo nice to be home with my baby. Even though it didn't go quite as planned I would do it the same all over again.
