Antibiotics and fussiness

DD was prescribed amoxicillin for an ear infection on wednesday and since then she has been over the top fussy.  Our pedi said she might be a little more fussy when she started the medicine but she has been fussier than I expected.  I think she cried (a loud high pitch scream) for 3 hours straight last night.  Is this normal?  Is it her tummy hurting from the antibiotics?

I just wanted to see if anyone else had the same experience.  I plan on calling the pedi to check to.

Re: Antibiotics and fussiness

  • Yes antibiotics can occassionally cause fussiness, usually it is related to GI/stomach upset issues.

    Is your baby having diarrhea?

Have you noticed her having more gas than usual?

  • Please please please do not stop the meds. That is how antibiotic resistant bacterial infections happen! Try gripe water or anything else before stopping antibiotics.
