Opinion on girl name

So initially, my husband and I talked about naming our daughter Addison Eve.  However, I had several reservations about Addison...mainly because it has gotten too popular.  Now we are considering Adelaide.  That is more traditional/classic but we can still call her Addi.  Do you think it sounds too old fashioned?  I love that it has a German origin (my husband's family is from Germany) and that it means noble/nobility. I'm just worried that it may be too old fashioned or that nobody will know how to spell it.  Also, when I told a few people at work that we were considering it, they thought that I was saying "Adelay" instead of Adelaide.  Thoughts??  Oh, and her middle name would still be Eve.

Re: Opinion on girl name

  • Although I'm not a fan of either name, I much prefer Adelaide to Addison. I don't think it is too old fashioned and I don't think you should encounter too many pronunciation issues.

  • Depending on where people are from, she will be called Adelaide (Ad-del-laid) or (Ad-del-lay). It's purely accent based. Adelaide is a million times better than Addison, which is a disease.

  • would definitely pick Adelaide over Addison.

truly do not like Addison at all.

I think Adelaide Eve is very pretty and feminine.

  • Addison is much nicer. The other sounds like a topical cream to me for some reason.
  • LOVE Adelaide :-)

  • I think Adelaide is MUCH better than Addison, although I'm a little tired of the Add- trend myself.  You might have some spelling issues from people unfamiliar with the name, but it is a classic name.
