Nanny Share -cost?

I'm not sure this is the right board for this but thought I would ask since some of you mom's might have multiple kids. We currently do a nanny share with another family in our neighborhood with our 2.5 year old daughter and their 2.5 year old boy. Both of us families are expecting another child in May and June. After our maternity leave we are hoping to continue the nanny share with the following schedule: Monday: Nanny watches all 4 kids (2 toddlers, 2 infants) Tuesday: Toddlers go to preschool all day. Nanny only watches 2 infants Wednesday: Nanny watches all 4 kids (2 toddlers, 2 infants) Thursday: Toddlers go to preschool all day. Nanny only watches 2 infants Friday: I have off on Fridays, nanny only watches the other family's toddler and infant Currently, both families pay our nanny $7.50/hr. So she makes about $15/hr when she has both kids. Given the situation that we will be facing in the fall, do you think if we paid a nanny $8.50/hr that would be reasonable? The nanny would be making $17/hr whether she has all 4 kids or just 2 kids. What do you all pay if you do a nanny share? TIA!

  • That still seems pretty low to me for 4 kids, especially since 2 will be infants around the same age. I'm also in Boston and nannies here are super expensive. I would ask around and see what other nannies in similar positions make or call some agencies an

  • That seems low to me for 4 kids.  Also, I don't know if I'd be comfortable with a nanny watching 2 infants.  What if they both need her at the same time?

  • I think that's pretty low. We pay $6.50/hour at our DC center and I'd expect that to double if we had another child. If I were paying a nanny, I'd expect to pay between $15 and $20 for one child, so $17/hour for 4 kids seems pretty low unless you're in a

  • I guess it depends on where you live.  Near boston, you would NEVER find a nanny to watch 4 kids for $17 an hour - that is CRAZY low.  They are pretty near that for one kid!
  • The nanny should have two different rates -- one rate where she watches 2 kids and then another rate when she watches 4 kids. On the days that she watches the 2 kids, it should still be $15/hour (which is what you have been doing). On the days that she

  • I'm sure it's a regional thing but nannies around us charge $12-15 an hour for one kid.  So that's seeming really low!  I get that some days she will only have two kids, but honestly if I was the nanny I would be thinking, "I made $15 an hour wa
