Deli meat

Just wondering how many of you ladies are sticking to the whole no deli meat rule? My doc said to avoid it, but I'd literally give my left arm for a cold turkey sandwich today. To cheat or not to cheat? That is the question.

  • Mine said to eat it just not every day or the prepackaged meats.  She said from the deli or a sandwich shop (like Subway) is fine.

Go have your cold turkey sandwich.

  • I eat it daily. My doctor said its fine as long as its not sitting out for a long period of time. I travel for work because I'm in sales so I'm on the road all day, it's one of the only heathy things you can eat while traveling anymore unless I get a burg
  • I'm craving a ham sandwich from subway with double meat. I'm avoiding it until I see my dr for the first time on Friday.

  • My dr said it doesn't worry him, but to be safe just make it a panini (heated up).

  • I love me some Jimmy Johns.  I only eat the fresh cut deli meat - or I'll steam it real good at home.

  • I had Subway for lunch today.  I just had them microwave my ham for 30 seconds before they put it on my sandwich :-)  Tasted just fine!
  • Well I had a delicious bologna sandwich for lunch today if that answers your question!

  • Since I eat sandwiches almost daily, I heat it up. Occasionally, I'll do a cold one, but I prefer warm sandwiches, with the cheese melted. mmmm

  • It's not likely you're going to contract listeria...if you want to err on the safe side, don't eat it, but most likely you will be just fine eating it.

  • Do carved turkey
  • I asked my doctor about this because I too was craving sandwiches.  He said it was fine to eat deli meat.  The concern is due to Listeria and he informed me the last four cases of Listeria that were found were not even in deli meat, but in eggs,
  • I love a good sandwich myself! But doc said deli cut meats is a no go! However, packaged turkey/ham is okay. He also said Subway was cool too! Yum!
  • Deli meat is fine to eat as long as you heat it to steaming first.  The reason pregnant women are supposed to avoid cold deli meat is the risk of listeria.  Listeria can be very harmful to pregnant women and unborn children.  Take some turk

  • I eat a turkey sandwich almost daily at work, but I have them heat it until steaming first.  If you want it cold, heat it and then cool it.  Boo bam, you're good to go.

Last pregnancy, I did eat turkey unheated quite often, just

I'll eat it if it's hot (like Arby's hot turkey sandwich) but I'm not going to risk it cold.

  • When I told my doc that I was microwaving the meat for 30 seconds and then putting the whole sandwich in the panini press.  She told me that sounds really gross and is overkill.  She said that toasting it is enough to kill anything.  So

  • I heat the meat til steaming too. I know it might be fine in moderation, but I just don't want to risk it.
