How do I find friends?

My parents are out of town for the week and I'm realizing how isolated I truly am.

We still have friends (none have children and one isn't even married).  Most of our friends are old college friends and we all have our own lives and it's very difficult to find time to  spend with them.  Especially since they don't have children we almost always have to get a sitter.

How do you find friends when you don't work?  There is no Mom's group in the town we're in and I always feel overwhelmed in situations like that.  I feel like most activities they would plan would exclude DS1 and I (he doesn't walk or talk). the one group semi local usual frequents playgrounds for playdates every week and the other one meets at a local indoor play gym.

To my boys:  I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew

  • The library? What about doing a google search for "top 10 things to do with kids in your town". Also check for any local "kid friendly" blogs from moms in your town of things to do. Are there Facebook groups in your town for anything you're interested

  • A lot of my mommy friends are from the school for the deaf. Are there any local SN support groups or do you have an ARC? They may be able to point you in the right direction.

Another way is to take some sort of class. You may have to be the

  • We have some already, fortunately with similar aged kids. But I've met a few through DS's school as well. Does your EI have meet up groups?
  • Our EI hosts a family picnic every summer. Maybe yours does something similar?

  • You're right--it is hard to meet people when you're not working.  We moved two years ago, and I've been trying to make some friends here.

Our OT center has a bulletin board where they post about playgroups for kids with SN.  There

I've met most of my mom friends through my local nest board.

Another mom and I struck up a conversation in the drop off pick up line at preschool.  I sucked up my shyness and gave her my info towards the end of summer last year. &nbsp
