NBR- ? For Photographer Bumpies

My SO and I are looking to invest in a good DSLR camera for non-professional use.  We just want a nice camera that we can have fun playing around with on vacations, throughout our LO's first years, holidays, etc...  I'd like to eventually take a class once things settle down... but mainly something reliable that can grow with us as we learn more about how to use it!

Sorry a little ramble-y...

It seems that 2 options which I am coming across the most are the Nikkon D3100 or the Cannon Rebel T3??...

Thoughts? TIA!!!!

    Don't have experience with the Nikkon, but I love the Canon Rebel. It's a good option for starting out with DSLR.

    Do you have any preference towards Nikon or Canon? That's usually what it comes down to. I'm a Canon girl and I'll readily admit it, which is why I've always been brand loyal. The advantages between brands are so slight that it comes down to brand loyalty

    I'm a canon point and shoot girl, so I'd probably go with Canon... But, one thing I would definitely look into with both cameras is the refresh rate. How soon after it takes a picture can it take the next one? Babies move fast! Whichever one can take the
