April 2013 Moms

May refuse internal tomorrow.

I'm supposed to be getting my first internal tomorrow morning, but I'm thinking I may refuse because I'm afraid of going into labor afterward.  With DD, I went into labor within 24 hrs of the internal.  It could have been a coincidence, as I was further along than this, but I want to do anything I can to avoid labor this week.  My DD is still hospitalized.  Some of you may have seen that post.  If you didn't, my 13 yo DD expressed suicidal thoughts to her counselor last Thurs. and was hospitalized.  I have been fighting to get her home, but the soonest I can legally force them to release her is this coming Friday.  She's saying that she didn't mean that she would actually do it, but that it was just a thought that she had wondered about.  I'm willing to step up her counseling, but don't want her to be hospitalized.  Obviously, I want her to be safe, but I don't feel that she needs hospitalization at this point.  Anyway, I just can't imagine going through the birth of this LO without DD.  It was be devastating to her to miss out on his birth, and would break the hearts of our whole family.  While getting the exam tomorrow might not cause anything at all to happen, it's just not a chance I want to take under these circumstances.  I really don't need to know what my cervix is doing this week anyway.  If I go into labor on my own, then so be it.  But, I don't see how getting checked is going to make any difference at this point in the pregnancy.

  • Sounds like you have a lot to deal with right now. I don't know that the internal itself would put you into labor, but if it would stress you out too much at this point, I think your doctor will understand. T P s coming your way.

  • You are so early... unless they are wanting to induce you like, in the next 2-3 days, I would refuse. What's the point?!

  • I agree that there's no point. Unless you're in labor it doesn't matter. So it sounds like you already have your mind made up.

I'm still wishing the best for your DD situation too. Sometimes when it rains it pours. Ahh! The entire month of M

  • NandaB,

No offense taken at all!  I have to agree that if she's really suicidal, that she belongs there.  Also, if she really is "faking" it to get a vacation, then there should be consequences.  Fortunately, she really seems to be

  • Is this a big deal with your practice? Mine didn't do routine internals at all except the one at 36 weeks to make sure the head was down. I'm sure if I would have had a reason for concern they would have pushed that one back a week.

  • I refused my 39 week internal after having one at 37 and 38.  My doctor didn't push but said she'd want to see how I was progressing at 40 and would likely offer to sweep my membranes then.  Its you choice.  Theres no real medical reason

  • So sorry to hear about your daughter; that must be a hard situation to deal with, especially given everything else currently going on. If you're that concerned about the internal, I say just skip it. It's really not that big of a deal, and you can always

  • Thank you all for your kind words. I already know that LO is head down so we wouldn't need to check that right now. I have been contracting for weeks, mostly due to that BV that won't go away. She's just been waiting til 37 weeks to check my cervix to see

  • Just saw this thread and wanted to send some T&P for your DD to you. In your shoes, I would refuse the internal. You're under a lot of stress and I sure see why you do not want labor to start right now. Please take good care of yourself and take it as
