Teachers with disability insurance

I'm a teacher an my due date falls in the summer. I pay for disability insurance because I wanted to be covered if we had a baby during the school year. Since I pay into it, can I collect it in the summer even though school is out? I'm under contract until August 31st. Just wondering if any of you have this same s situation or have gone through it and knows how it works in the summer. TIA

Re: Teachers with disability insurance

  • As I understand it, if you pay for extra insurance beyond your normal plan, you would receive that on top of maternity leave pay.  So, that means no matter what time of year you have your baby, you would still get the extra income for the 6 or 8 week

  • Nope, unless I just have a wonderful plan. I had my son last May a week before school let out, and got paid full maternity. I specifically asked and it was explained to me that I am physically unable to work, whether or not there is work to be done. If

In AZ you are able to collect on top of your regular pay.

I have Prudential. I called and asked, and they said they will pay me over the summer, even though we are out of school. I would call your provider to ask; that's really the only way to know unless you know someone with the same provider as you who had a
