Cloth diaper recommendations?

I am thinking about using cloth diapers. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Re: Cloth diaper recommendations?

  • I'm just starting to look into it as well. I'm going to take a "Cloth Diaper 101" class. That way I can see the cleaning and products in person. A couple that are located in the city are offered by BeByBaby and Bellybum.

  • I wanted to take one of those 101 classes when I was pregnant with our first but was never able to attend due to scheduling. I would recommend though that make sure you go to a class that actually showcases a variety of different brand of diapers. I know one of the classes offered at one of the store is really just a showcase of one particular brand. I don't remember which one though so maybe just ask when you call to register.

With that said, my husband and I decided to use gdiapers. They have both a cloth option as well as a flushable/biodegradable insert if you so desire. One thing that I like about our gDiapers is that they come in the different sizes (S, M, L, etc) rather than an "All In One" size. For me, this helped because we could buy a smaller about of diapers and if we decided that they weren't for us, we could easily switch to another brand without having to have spent a ton of money to get an entire stash. We also like the versatility of the different inserts for traveling, at home, etc. Also, because of the different sizes, now that we are expecting #2, we don't have to worry about expanding our stash to accommodate both kids, since our first is currently in Lgs which means that our Smalls are free for the next one to use.

Anyway, their facebook group is also a good resource to ask questions or you can call gDiapers themselves and they will be more than happy to help answer questions. Good luck in your search! Oh, and if you do decide to go that route and are interested in a couple of coupons to help build your stash let me know! gDiapers will periodically send out coupons to their subscribed users/enthusiasts to help spread the word since they are still a somewhat smaller company, so I have a few to pass out still

  • there are some good youtube videos that explain the differences, along with the cloth diapering board here on the bump.

cutie poops and bottoms in Orland Park is a good store to see them in person, plus they do a trial in case you want to see how it works.  If you decide to go with them, your deposit goes towards store credit.  There are also a few diaper services that are in the Chicago area.

I'm not currently CDing, but  I love it. Our washer broke and I just can't hand wash again.

If you're in the Chicago area, I suggest checking out one of the CD stores. I love Fluff Envy in S. Elgin and have been to Comfy Bummy in Naperville as well.

  • We did a comfy bummy CD101 class and it was so helpful to see things in person and be able to ask questions!   I highly recommend taking one somewhere.

I had read a bunch of blogs, and had an idea of what I thought we'd do... but taking the class changed that.

  • I could type for house on this.. However the end wpuld be if you decide to do this go with "flip brand" I tried over 10 different kinds and BY FAR FLIP ARE THE BEST. Based on lasting over time, sizing options and leak prevention. Good luck
