This has got me thinking about their first birthday. This is probably a UO and very premature, but I want your opinions on the matter. I love one year parties for the cake smash part, but despise watching parents trying to get their uninterested one year old to open gifts. I also don't think it's neccessary to buy cards for one year olds. Have any of you been to a first birthday party where there were no gifts, only a cake smash? I'll bet everyone would think I was a total Biotch if I reqested no gifts for their first birthday party. Thoughts?

I honestly think that if you requested no gifts some people would respect that, and others would not. It's just the way the world works in my experience.

We have been to about 3 1st birthday parties and the kids did not open the gifts.

We didn't open up gifts at DD1's 1st birthday party, we did have a little after party at our house though for my sister and her family, my parents, my inlaws and brother in law and we opened up all the presents then - after DD1 took her nap!
