Bottle Help! (XP from FB)

I have a bottle problem. (This is long)

Skyler will not take more than 1-2oz of milk if it is in a cup, ALL day.  I have been bottle weaning since December and cut back one bottle every two weeks at DC (she BF at home).  I have tried WCM, 2%, and Coconut Milk and she treats them all the same.  If we are at a restaurant she will drink about 3oz from their straw cups, but I think she looks at it as a special treat.  At home I can get her to drink a good bit of water from her straw cup or from a water bottle, but at DC she refuses to drink.  She usually eats and drinks better at DC than at home so that makes my struggle more complicated.

I wasn't too concerned because I just give her lots of yogurt and cheese and send fresh fruit daily for the extra liquid.  Her wet diapers are getting less and less and she is only using 3-4 diapers a day vs 5-6, but she usually poops 2-4 times, so I don't know if she's peeing or just pooping.  Her overnight diaper is really wet in the morning, but not as wet as it used to be.  Her poops were also becoming very hard because of the lack of liquids.  As a result, I have been giving her a bottle of WCM while I put on her PJ's after her bath and brush her teeth right after.  I also hate giving her a bottle during bedtime routine because I removed nursing from her bedtime routine in October and now I feel like I'm going to have to break the routine again.

Last night I tried to give her a sippy and she flipped out.  Before the past week we never offered bottles to her at home or at DC since her birthday on 2/15, they were completely out of sight and all the other kids at daycare use cups, she is the youngest.  So I don't think she's been holding back all this time in hopes of getting a bottle.

I also feel like she's really thirsty because she tries to nurse much more often than before in the evening and on weekends.  Friday when I was off from work she took two 3oz bottles of WCM back to back so I know she is probably really thirsty at school.  (Skyler NEVER takes more than 4oz of milk at once, including BM)  I let her nurse, but I know I have a very small supply as it was dwindling when I was still pumping at work.  What should I do?  Keep giving her bottles?  Let her dehydrate herself?

  • RN - She won't drink the juice at DC either.  I even sent it in a bottle because she was getting so dehydrated and she only drank 2oz.  When I sent it in a cup she wouldn't drink it either.  I've even sent her a smoothie and she still re

  • I don't really have great advice, but I wanted to say that I'm sort of in the same boat.  My DD will drink her milk from a bottle in two seconds, but just sort of discards milk in sippy cups.

  • We went cold turkey!  The first few nights were rough, as bottles were part of his bed time routine and morning routine.  He had cut out his daytime bottles on his own.  Ian does not sit and drink a whole cup of milk like he would sit and d

  • I would not worry about it.  We are in the exact same boat.  DS will drink in resuarants - a few ounces - and very little at home --- unless he has more flavorful food (lemon caper chicken resulted in him drinking an entire sippy of milk, but

  • Sept07 - She didn't have a bottle for over 5 weeks do you think she held out all that time?  Also, we are warming the bottles and sippy's of milk.  She likes the bottle warm and doesn't take the sippy any better with it being warm.

  • Well, the other way to look at this is the way my DH would like to look at this - don't give up on the bottles yet.  Most pedi's want LOs off bottles by 15 months, which would still give you a couple months before they really "need" to be off

  • I went to Wal Mart on my lunch and got a soft spout sippy cup that's more like a bottle and will give that a try.  Thanks ladies!

  • My DD got a new sippy cup in her easter basket and she WILL FINALLY drink milk out of it.  When we first switched to cows milk, she would not touch it.  I tried coconut, almond and even chocolate milk.  She got to where she would take a few
