Tired of the Intros yet?

I mostly lurk but do put in my 2 cents from time to time. Didn't realize this was here until today. I usually lurk on toddler 24+, AP, Parenting (including 35).

DH and I are both on our second marriage and old (me 40, DH 51). I have 2 SD that are 19 and 21 and in college (they lived with their mom back East prior to going to college). We are also raising DH's nieces who are 13 and 18. DD is an IVF baby and I had her at 37 after a couple of years of trying.

We were pretty much always one and done for a few reasons: age, infertility (failed vas reversal and unexplained infertility on my end), and DH's kids (when we started our IVF adventure nieces didn't live with us yet). I have always wanted kids but after my divorce and meeting DH I was just hoping for one.

So technically Dd isn't an only but she is my only and I'm ok with that. I was hoping for just one and we couldn't be happier. She is a great kid and we are really having fun with her. If I had been younger I might have considered another one but I would've still wanted 4-5 years between kids. I can't imagine adding another kid at this point in DD's life. She is a lot of fun and I love being able to do a lot of stuff with her while she isn't in school yet. Adding a baby to that would make it a lot tougher.

We travel a lot and having 2 little ones would make it a lot harder and we would probably have to cut back on travel (most of our travel is family related). DD is a great traveler so we lucked out with that. No guarantees that a second child would be too.

I feel blessed that I was able to have one and am totally at peace with not having another. I had a great pregnancy but at my induction it was discovered that I had HELLP syndrome without any of the usual symptoms. I'm glad I was able to experience pregnancy once. I honestly don't think I would want to go through the stress of IVF again even if I was younger (2 cycles and we only had one good embryo after chromosomal testing).

Hope to hang out here frequently although I really didn't need another board to get sucked into...... Smile
