night waking?!?

Night Waking::

DS has STTN since about 6 wks! YAY. I would say that it's been pretty consistent (even through moving) with the exception of a night here or there or if he was sick. He has freaked out a few times but I'm pretty sure those were bad dreams.

Anyway, for the past 2 or so months now, he has been waking up once a night. It's usually between 2-5AM. DH or I go into his room, cover him up, and say goodnight and he goes back to sleep. There have been a few times that he hasn't gone back to sleep right away or this has happened more than once a night but I could probably count those on one hand. Anyway, I've tried putting him in heavier PJS (like sleepers) or turning up the heat some but those haven't seemed to help. If DH and I go to bed late enough (sometimes on weekends), then he won't wake up. I think it's because we always go in to cover him before we go to bed. Up until these last couple months, he's never really cared about his blanket before(even though we always covered him) and he's always been a "warmer" baby.. (seemed to prefer less clothes and the cooler weather- like his dad)...

Is this a phase? Could he be having bad dreams that wake him and just wants to know we're there? Is there a way to try to teach him to cover himself back up?

New baby is coming in June and I really want him to be sleeping again. I can tell that it's making him tired but he's being stubborn and not napping these days!

Let me know your advice! Thanks!

Re: night waking?!?

  • Have you tried a wearable blanket? We put G in a Halo toddler sleep sack with feet holes and it keeps him warm all night (since he moves around too much to keep a blanket on.)
  • Loading the player...
  • This happened to us too. It ended up being a phase. But we did go through about 2 months of him waking up and sleeping with us in our bed at around 4 am. Give it a little time, he will probably fix himself!

  • We are in a phase like this right now. Oliver is wearing a sleep sack still so he's not cold. He calls for us at night. Asks for us to read books or go downstairs. We just go in and tell him it's night time and we are all sleeping then leave. He settles b
  • We went through this over the past several months & it still happens a couple times a week, but has gotten better.

    Our list of possible causes are:

    starting daycare = sense of insecurity, separation anxiety

    teething & prolon
