C-sections

8 weeks off?

I've always heard you take 6 weeks for vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for a c section. Is this true? I'm planning on talking to my boss tomorrow and just want to make sure I'm not out of line asking for 8 weeks due to the emergency c section when I was only planning on taking 6.

  • I think your Dr medically clears you to work at 8 weeks after a section. That how mine does it anyway. You would have to check with the Dr if you were looking to go back prior to that. Just ask your Dr at your next visit.

  • My short term disability pays 6 for vaginal and 8 for a c/s. So it depends what laws or policies are covering your leave. If you are getting paid from your company or a std policy, you'll need to read their coverage policies. If you are covered by FMLA

  • The STD company with my first c/s only allowed 6 weeks pp unless my doctor wrote me out another 2 weeks.

    The STD company with my second c/s gave 8 weeks automatically for my 2nd c/s.

  • The 8 weeks for a csection seems standard. Like the PP my doctor cleared me for exercise at my 6 week visit but she didn't clear me to return to work for two more weeks.
