Heads up about finding out gender early!

My best friend is due in August with baby #2.  16w6 days she had a quick u/s and the doctor said there were NO apparent boy parts.  They knew they had to take this with a grain of salt since it was early, but she has been excited for a little girl for the past 3 weeks.  Fast forward to today, 19w6 days and she had her a/s...Its a boy!

Now she is in limbo wondering which one is right...she is nervous the dr saw the cord and took it as a penis. She knows it is probably a boy, but now she will be left with doubt to drive her crazy until she can get another u/s or deliver.

So for those of you who are finding out early or what not, just try to remember to not be upset if further down the road you find out the gender was wrong.  It is exciting to get glimpses of our babies so enjoy u/s of course!  Also, obviously this does not happen to everyone so don't assume you can't find out early...just a pre-caution since it is going on with my bff right now.

Re: Heads up about finding out gender early!

  • This happened to a friend of mine... She thought she was having a girl and had a baby shower for a girl then a few weeks before birth she was told that she's having a boy... Good thing she had enough time to exchange her gifts.

  • I know people who were told they were having a girl at 20 weeks, painted the nursery purple, went to have the baby and out popped a boy!  The dad rushed home to repaint the room.  haha I was nervous with DD because the people actually lived i

  • I don't know what I would do if this happened to us! Shockingly I've heard this is much more common than I ever thought!
  • I was my BFF's labor coach/partner for her 1st. She learned that she was having a boy and after she delivered him, the Dr. announced, "It's a GIRL!"

We both went "What?!" and then the Dr. goes "Never mind, it's a BOY!"

    Never trust a Dr. who

  • And I think is why my doc won't do the anatomy scan till I am 22 weeks. I don't blame her and I rather her be right then wrong. Better safe than sorry!
  • We're team green as of now but we still can't decide if we want to find out or not. We go back and forth so much. I would love to tell my family members that want to know but I want to be surprised myself. So back and forth.. Ugh.

  • We are going to find out the sex, but I still plan on going gender neutral for almost everything for this very reason lol.

  • Whereas this does happen, I don't think it's more common than we think. I was told at mine with DD that they are right, I don't remember if she said 95 or 99 percent of the time at the anatomy scan. Either way, the error rate is pretty low as long as you

  • They won't tell us here. IF they happen to see the parts they will put it in the report to go to your dr and he can tell you but other than that you get nuttin here. See if she has a 3d US in the area. It's a bit pricey but we had it done with Michaela a

  • Not sure why anyone would get upset if they weren't told with certainty.  I was only told with 90% certainty that DD was a girl at 13 weeks.  I definitely didn't count on that until it was confirmed at my a/s.

    Also, unless doctors do a
