food aversions

for those that saw speech pathologists for food issues, what did they do? is there anything I can do to help my son so that maybe we can avoid it? he will eat some foods, yogurt and solids but will not eat any purees. he seems to hate the consistency.  I'm wondering if I can do anything to help him. 

 

ETA- I do not believe it is the taste of the actual foods.  he will eat steamed sweet potato with his fingers or an apple in the mesh feeder but refuses sweet potato puree or applesauce or pureed apples.

    I could be totally off base but to me not liking purees doesn't seem like a red flag for issues. A lot of babies [like mine] skip purees all together by doing BLW. I would check with your pediatrician but since he's eating solids I personally wouldn't b

    The pedi was the one that mentioned it. She said she was concerned that it may become a more serious aversion as he gets older. We will revisit at his one year check up.

    We did about 6 months of feeding therapy. I can't remember all the ins and outs, but some of the big things were: letting the baby play with the food, just dump a little big on the tray and let them get their hands in it. eventually some will make it i
