Should I get a second opinion?

Alright, I'm getting over the initial shock of Owl's CP dx and am wondering if I should get a second opinion from another ortho in regards to braces or inserts for her pronation.

The Dr. we saw last week said that there is no need to use them because the CP is causing the pronation and is something that can't be corrected with orthotics. I understand that the CP is causing this problem but don't want any further issues because I didn't push for something I think could help. He stressed that her CP is mild and that since she walks, stoops, etc without assistance that she definitely doesn't need anything to correct her ankle position.

What would you do?

Re: Should I get a second opinion?

  • A second opinion never hurts. DD sees a top pediatric neurologist at a Top 3 hospital. We STILL went for a second opinion at CHOP in Philly. Mostly for us to be reassured that we're doing right by DD.

  • I third this.  Ours prescribes orthotics for Matthew and has helped get pt services.
  • Does she already get PT?  Our initial set of braces the PT basically just told the pedi what to write for and we went to the prosthetic/orthotics place.  The orthotics came from the physiatrist.

  • Thanks everyone, I will look into seeing a physiatrist, our neuro referred us to ortho so I figured this was who would help us with braces. The neuro also sent a referral to PT but it's taking forever so our early start teacher is having her PT visit us
