Caffeine/Ginseng. Could I be hurting baby?

I tried to completely cut caffeine but this time around i've had a hard time. My doctor said a little bit was ok so i've been having a glass of tea per day and no coffee (except for a couple days where I had a small mocha frappe from mc d's instead). And occasionally i'll drink a vitamin water and they don't say caffeine on the ones that I drink.

So today I was drinking some turkey hill green tea w/ ginseng and honey. It hit me... ginseng.... didn't I read that was bad during pregnancy? Crap. Looked it up and I keep seeing different answers. What do you guys think? What have you been told. And does tea even have a lot of caffeine? Or even enough ginseng in a glass of turkey hill green tea to matter? And if vitamin water doesn't say anything about caffeine on label could it still have it? I noticed one of the flavors said caffeine but I didn't see it on the ones that I bought.

I'm probably being paranoid but I certainly don't  want to be hurting the baby.

  • I think you can have up to 3 coke's a day and it be the "acceptable" amount.  I do have a cup of coffee a day and was told that was totally fine!  Tea does have more caffeine than coffee...but I would just call your doctor if you are too paranoi

  • Its probably fine. Honestly, you'd have to ingest ginseng in medicinal concentrated amounts (far more than in a simple, commercial bottle of tea) for a regular, prolonged period of time to harm your fetus.

  • Thank you so much. And thanks Shara for the link. I'll be saving that to my computer. I never know how much is in anything. This is really going to be helpful. I'm probably going to cut out the green tea that has ginseng (almost done with what's in the

  • Arizona green tea with ginseng was the only thing that kept my MS at bay with babies 1 and 3. When I had my son almost 16 years ago there were no limits on caffeine and I was working a very early shift I drank 4 to 5 cups of coffee a day plus a tea in the
  • Teas different in the amount of caffeine, but it will have no more than coffee unless you're buying expensive loose teas.

My doctor says the normal allowable range of caff is 100-300 per day. One cup of tea is usually no where near that.&nb

  • Don't worry about the caffeine hurting the baby. However, I would work towards drinking less and less caffeine gradually so you've kicked the habit by the time the baby is born. I use to have a latte made at home every morning (double shot of espresso
