One & Done: Only child

Any Military Families?

DH is in the Air Force and we keep hearing we can't just have one because it will be so hard for DD to be moving all the time and not have friends. I understand that argument but that will also be the only thing shes used to. She will move a lot and so will her friends! We have orders to England later this year and will be stationed over there for 4 years. She'll be 5 when we're leaving so not really old enough to be too too upset I don't think.

I can't justify having another child just so she can have someone to move with her. If we were going to have another it would be because we wanted to expand our family as a whole not make another baby so DD wouldn't be alone when we moved to a new place.

The decision seems to be pressing because we're planning on leaving all of our baby gear with family in the states to pass down, so if we decide to have another while we're gone we have to buy things all over again. But we have no plans to have another right now so considering how small houses are over there it's pointless to take it.

  • I keep trying to tell people it's kind of silly because there is a chance my kids would HATE each other then dealing with that during deployments would be SO much fun!... Not.

I really do think it is best for us all round if we just have one.

  • We are OAD too and a Navy family. I have been giving baby stuff away as DD grows out of it to family, friends with kids, or Goodwill. I can't stand the thought of having to move umpteen times with all the baby accouterments just in case we change our m
