STMs - What will you do with LO #1?

I know its early but I'm already stressed about what we will do with DD during this birth. My family is 4 hours away so the odds of them being able to drop what they are doing and drive out in time to watch DD are slim. My ILs are an hour away but I'm not wild about them. They are sort of inconsiderate and don't listen to our instructions for our dog when they watch him so I worry about them watching DD. They aren't around her more than every few months, so they don't know her schedule, what she eats, when she naps, heck they can't even change her CDs (we tried that once and first MIL refused to change it so DD sat in pee for 4 hours as a newborn and the next time she put the diaper on inside out!). So what are you thinking right now?

Also, does anyone know what most hospitals do in terms of older LOs? When can they stay with mom? How long during labor can DD be with me? I know all hospitals are different but just give me an idea.

  • My IL's live nearby so DS will go to them. They aren't perfect at following his schedule and stuff but they are pretty good about it and he's used to being with them so I'm not worried. In your case I would try to get your IL's to agree to just watch her

  • My situation is a little different as I will be having a repeat c-section. So my DS will be going to daycare during the day and coming to the hospital to visit before going home with DH. This will be the case for all 3 days I am in the hospital, my DH

  • I'm not really sure what we'll do, but I know our daycare will watch him for us.  It's a small in-home daycare and that's one of the things they do for their current clients.
