How accurate are due dates?

I know a lot of people whose due dates have changed several times over the course of their pregnancies. They haven't changed mine at all, but they told me at my 34 week appt. last week that I was measuring small, and so was baby. When I first found out I was pregnant, I went to meet with the midwives clinic that I'm using and they estimated, with their idiot-proof circle chart, that I was almost 16 weeks. I knew I wasn't that far along and when I went for my dating U/S I was only 12 weeks 6 days. My periods have always been irregular, as in, I am always late. Off the pill, I've been anywhere from 3-15 days later than the month before. So I'm wondering, with a period so irregular, and their first estimation being so wildly off, how accurate can their projected due date really be? I ask because so far everything has been fine and dandy and I would really prefer not to use drugs or be induced, and they will only let you go to 41 weeks and 4 days before inducing you. TIA for any advice or answers.

I would discuss this with your midwives and have them do an ultrasound to measure baby. How was baby measuring at your mid-way anatomy scan? On track? Or no?

Your EDD should have been changed after your dating ultrasound since, um, that's kind of the point of it!

I think if there is a 5 or more day discrepancy between your EDD based on your last period, and by how you're measuring in the US they will change

I don't know why they even bother going by your last period.. How many women have exact 28 day cycles?

I would have a talk with your MW and ask them to maybe compromise a date between your LMP and your dating ultrasound?
If you get to your due date, ask to start seeing a specialist to do a weekly BPP or NST, which is what a lot of mothers opt to do w

I think my EDD is wrong too actually. Based on my LMP, I'm due May 17th. Based on when I think we conceived her, EDD is May 22nd. Based on my dating ultrasound at only my 12 week appointment, EDD is May 27th. So, my OB says May 27t

I never got a dating ultrasound so I'm not sure if my EDD is even correct. At my 20 week, (I was about 18 weeks then) they said I was measuring fine according to the 20 week makers... I think my EDD should be earlier.

With DS I thought my DD was 10-13, but my US said 10-10. DS was actually born on his DD of 10-10 (water broke the night before) so the US was right. This time I'm not sure EXACTLY when we concieved, but my US said 5-9. We'll see

Dating ultrasounds are pretty accurate. I know exactly when I conceived so due date should be 24th may and ultrasound predicted 21st.

If you're unsure I'd speak with your MW again.

The early dating u/s are usually the only ones that can have a significant impact on EDD. Once you get further into pregnancy u/s is a lot less accurate. Toward the end with my first, I consistently measured multiple weeks behind, but since I knew exactly
