St Barnabas (livingston) vs Overlook hospital(Summit)

Hi mums and mums to be! I am due in June, FTM. So confused about where I would like to deliver. I would like opinions or recent experiences about these hospitals ( St Barnabas and Overlook) and which you think is better? and why?

Your responses will be greatly appreciated.

Re: St Barnabas (livingston) vs Overlook hospital(Summit)

  • I just delivered at Barnabaa in February. The hospital was so easy to use and navigate and the staff was amazing. I had some non pregnancy complications after delivery and I could not of had better care. The nursing staff for me and LO was so top notch. I am def planning on delivering all my children there.

  • Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Good to know you and baby are doing fine. Gets me closer to my decision.
  • delivered at St. Barnabas last year and unfortunately my experience was not the greatest. My epidural had to be done three times and the nurse in labor and delivery was terrible. She was very mean and if I made even the slightest noise while I was pushing she would get angry and tell me not to bother because that push was wasted. I wound up having a c-section and I still to this day believe that if I had a more supportive nurse I would have been able to deliver naturally. That being said, the nurses that helped me after giving birth were exceptional. The birth is the most important part though so you might want to go to overlook. I have many friends who delivered at overlook and had wonderful experiences.
  • Thanks so much Nicki.lauren for your response.

  • I had a scheduled c section at Overlook. My son was breech. I LOVED it there. The nurses were awesome and made my experience amazing. I was beyond TERRIFIED of surgery and they were so relaxing. Thank God for them. I went to NJ Perinatal Associates at St. Barnabas and that is a good practice. I know more people that delivered at Barnabas than Overlook, but can speak from experience that Overlook was great!

  • I delivered my 2nd baby @ Overlook and had a great experience!  I loved all my nurses:)  My son had a few issues and wound up in the NICU and I found all of his drs and nurses to be extremely helpful and supportive as well!!  I've heard people say that staying at Overlook is a spa vacation.  You even get a massage after you give birth!!  And the food isn't horrible!  I plan on delivering my 3rd baby here as well.  Good luck:)
  • I had a good experience at Overlook as well.

    My experience of delivering my first only child was made so traumatic thanks to St. Barnabas that I'm scared to have another baby : . Nursery staff is bad beyond words nurses in delivery are worse than you can imagine. I was induced was in 20 hours of labour in which 16 was without Epi. Nurse forgot twice to start the oxytocin was reminded by my DH. My babies heartbeat was dropping alarm was going off but there were no nurses around, my husband left me alone to look for them..recovery room nurses are..sorry I'm running out of words to describe them..they don't feel your pain..I used to press the button used to wait for 1020 mins to go to the bathroom or wait for them to give a pain killer as I had a csec eventually..bill 450000.. I'd never recommend this facility to anyone even in my dream..sorry for the long rant but I want you to save yourself from all this additional pain trauma given by such a staff people ;
  • im going through the same battling decision.. my current OB delivers at overlook but my family is saying to find an ob that delivers at barnabas. but its been so hard finding an ob for that hospital that isnt booked until march.

    I'm a nurse in the NICU at St Barnabas.  I can't say much about L&D or Maternity, since I don't work there, but I can tell you that, God forbid your baby needs a NICU, St B's is the place to be. Level III care, nothing but the best. Good luck with your decision!
