Trying to Get Pregnant

Lots of Water

So if you say in the waiting to O posts that you are drinking a lot of water .... I am wondering what is a lot?

I typically drink between 60 and 80 oz of water a day, but I pretty much always have. I feel like if I drink much more than that I will float away!

Just curious :-)

  • I drink 3-32 oz bottles a day. I'm bf'ing, but that hasn't really seemed to change how much I drink except I notice sooner if I'm not drinking enough. I also have a couple cups of tea, but don't really drink anything else.

Hydration is key to just about everything our body does.  For myself, I don't drink enough water on my own and end up dehydrated - chapped lips, dry skin, thirsty, and most important for conception, very little cervial mucus that isn't watery.

So I drink 1-2 glasses of green tea per day and now I'm adding lemon water in the morning to try to make my body a bit more alkaline as well as hydrated (sperm lives longer in an alkaline environment).

ETA: Stupid Bump posted before I was done... it sounds like you're drinking more than enough for conception, but everyone's body is a bit different in what it needs!  I swear my DH drinks about 1 gallon per day, and that's normal for him.

Where did you read this? I hadn't heard that before...

I was talking to a friend of mine who is a homeopathic physicians assistant & nutritionist this weekend - we were taking in general nutrition, not just about TTC, but she mentioned that a lot of foods cause higher acidity in the body than is good.

I asked about conceiving, and she pointed out that semen is typically more alkaline than the vagina, and that the closer they are in terms of pH relates to how long the sperm will survive. It's why PreSeed (and similar products) are marketed - they help keep pH at a good level.

I can't find much about it online - apparently acidic/alkaline diet is one variation of the Shettles method, so most Googling is coming up as gender selection.  However, I figured some lemon water wouldn't hurt.  I'm also cutting down on sugar, especially artificial sugar, and eating more vegetables. Didn't seem like bad changes to make anyway!

ETA:  Here's WebMD's take on eating to have an alkaline diet (basically, might help, won't hurt):  https://www.webmd.com/diet/features/alkaline-diets-what-to-know?page=2

And here's more info on what to eat or not eat:  https://www.acidalkalinediet.com/Alkaline-Foods-Chart.htm

    crazy interesting. thanks!!

  • I really need to start. I just have bad eating habits all together. I dont drink water maybe a few sips if that and I eat fast food alot.
  • Yes that has great info! :)
  • I try to just drink water and that's it, in general. If I have caffeine or alcohol I drink even more water. 8 glasses, somewhere around there.

  • Drinking a lot of water has its own benefits and it's one way to detox your body . For pregnant, it is somehow important, depending on your body need as it can help you feel so much comfortable and have more energy.
