12 Weeks Pregnant

Anyone else out of breath?

The last few days, well since I hit week 12, I've been feeling so out of breath anytime I climb a simple set of stairs or walk a fair amount. It takes me a few minutes to catch my breath; I feel winded!  Is this normal? I don't know if it's the pregnancy, me getting out of shape since I've been too tired to work out, or a health problem. Anyone else experiencing this?

  • I am also feeling out of breath and I do work out. Just getting up and walking out to our barn from the house I get short of breath.

  • i've actually been out of breath for several weeks now (i'm 12 weeks).  i'm pretty sure it's because i've had morning sickness so i'm not eating much, i'm exhausted & i'm not going to the gym like i was before i found out i was pregnant.  like you, walking up a small flight of stairs has me exhausted to where i have to sit a few minutes & catch my breath.  actually, doing anything around the house wears me out in a matter of minutes

  • I'm 12 weeks today and I started feeling this way last week. It really worried my husband and I. So we looked into it and apparently this is a common symptom that starts right around now. Just like the baby is using your nutrients and your energy, your precious little one is also taking a lot of your oxygen as well. It's not anything to worry about we just need to make sure to take it easy and when doing any kind of exercise make sure we take enough brakes to get re hydrated and catch our breath :)
  • I'm so glad I'm not alone! I'm generally healthy and active, so to suddenly be out of breath after walking around the block I was so scared!! I'll just take deeper breaths, apparently I'm breathing for 2 now ;
  • ive been feeling that way too. I direct my churchs choir an i also sing while i direct. well since ive gotten pregnant i cant do very much singing while i direct at all.
  • Yes!! Horribly. Pretty sure its the pregnancy just getting off the couch and walking to the bathroom is a struggle !
  • I've been winded too n it's worse at night. I do have allergy induced asthma n a heart murmur so I was worried something was seriously wrong w me. Glad to hear I'm not alone.
  • I get winded going up stairs and hills. It started pretty early on...at 4-5 weeks. I read it is related to circulating more blood through the body.

    Me too- I have insane allergies which seem to be flaring up more now. I wake up burning hot and out of breath.

  • So glad I saw this post! I am 12 weeks today with my first and I thought it was just me! I felt so out of shape just walking swiftly. I got so worried that I asked my doctor about it today, and he said that it is nothing to be concerned about. He said that's just a part of the growing process.
  • I have been feeling winded lately as well...from what I have read it is a very common symptom and is caused by added pressure on the diaphragm (so it will probably only get worse as our bellies keep growing lol) as well as the simple fact that our bodies are working extra hard to produce extra oxygen for our peanuts ;-)
  • Girl yes! I've had the same concern, and I workout daily... It's weird because I don't get really winded in cycling classes at the gym, but I'm winded at work doing a training or workshop. Go figure?? I'm sure this is normal. It's good to know that I'm not the only one.
