Hi everyone!
Haven't been around in quite a while.
Just had our 3 year Stroke Clinic check up and the guy is doing great, with only mild cp in left hand! Woohoo! Motor, speech/cognition, etc. is all good.
We've got this drooling issue though...soaking his neck, and shirt. Not noticing. We've been using verbal cues to remind, but doesn't seem to be working that well. I'm afraid for social reasons, and because it keeps making his face break out...but mostly because he doesn't seem to even notice.
Paeds. says let it be for a while, trying cues, and if it doesn't work, a 6-12 month med cycle could dry it up...
Would love ideas? He's never been said to have low tone in the mouth, face or neck...
Re: Stroke Moms or anyone- 3 year old and excessive drooling?
Does he have an OT? One of DS's taught us an "exercise" regimen with DS' mouth that you can do several times a day to help them strengthen and or relax different muscles in the mouth and also increase awareness of what their mouth is doing. I forget wh
Yes. He has an OT. I'll ask her about it. Thanks
I wonder if this has come up for anyone else and has just gone away?
Thanks again
Sure!
I hope that helps!
My DS still drools when he has a cold. Is your LO a chewer? DS has gotten into chewing his coat, so we have him wear chewelry necklaces and those do help with that.
I hope some of the others here can chime in wit
Goog
My guy had excessive drooling until around his 3rd birthday. And I mean soaking his shirt, needing to wear a bib every day dooling.
For him it ended up being a low tone issue - which we have worked out with the help of SLP and OT.
GL!
We're seeing Paeds. next week...We'll see what he says.
Thanks
