I feel terrible! (DS/snap dipe snafoo)

Okay, the last two days have been "worst mommy ever" kind of days :(  Yesterday I was clipping my little guy's fingernails, and I accidentally nicked two fingers.  It was weird too b/c he didn't cry right away, but a few minutes later he started screaming and I noticed some spots of blood on his onesie.  Felt horrible!!! :(  They weren't deep cuts or anything, just like tiny paper cuts - but still.

Then today - I was putting DS in a snap closure pocket dipe for the very first time ever, and was so excited about it . . . till I realized I didn't know how to close the snaps without putting a few fingers of one hand on the inside of the diaper, through the waistband, while pushing on the snaps from the outside.  I think while my fingers were inside, I might have (very superficially) grazed against his penis with a fingernail.  My nails are super duper short and blunt, and I swear it wasn't a hard scratch with much force, but the surprise of that feeling caught DS off guard, his eyes widened, and out came a huge scream.  I sincerely hope I didn't hurt him - of course I ripped the diaper off right away to check, and he was fine.  But I don't want to traumatize him!!!  I feel like I traumatized myself, LOL - I am afraid to use my snap diapers anymore!

 

Anyone have a suggestion for me about how to close the waistband snaps without hurting my kid's manhood?!  :)

    I really can't imagine that you need to reach in that far.  We use snaps (on our girl) and have never had a problem like you described.  It was probably a fluke, I am sure it'll be fine in the future!

    All of my dipes are snaps. They are up far enough so that my fingers don't go near his junk. We also make sure it points down. That's all I got. It gets easier with practice.

    Sorry for not replying earlier -  busy yesterday attending to DS's nightly crankiness :)  Yeah, so - its a one-size dipe on the smallest possible settings, both for rise and waistband.  It's a diaper I sewed myself using the Rocketbottoms p
