Another question about Daisy

I posted a few days ago about the name Daisy (middle name Louise); my husband loves the name, and I love it but I am afraid it's too cute for an adult. It was suggested that we go with the name Margaret and then use Daisy as a nickname. I've since realized that I don't like the name Margaret or any of its variations (Marguerite, Margarita, Margarethe, etc.) enough to use as a first name.

Both my husband and I do, however, love the name Greta, which I see as a stand-alone name as well as a nickname for Margaret. How acceptable would it be to use the first name Greta and then use the nickname Daisy? Part of me thinks that because both names are Margaret derivatives, it makes sense. Another part of me thinks that I am really reaching in order to use the name Daisy.

What say you, BNB?

Re: Another question about Daisy

  • I know an adult Daisy and she is a very successful and respected person. I personally do not like the names Margaret or Greta, I think Daisy is waaaaay prettier. I would go with the name you like. Also, kids names are crazy these days- when our kids are a

  • It sounds like you are really reaching. If Daisy is so important to you, then use it. She can always go by her middle name when she is older if she chooses.

  • Sorry I hadn't seen your other post and this was addressed, but am curious about getting Daisy from Margaret....?  Seems like a huge stretch.  I'd just go with Daisy if you love it.

  • I went to hs with a Daisy who is now a doctor, I don't think her name is to cutsey or has hindered her in any way in life. I agree with pp, it sounds like you both really like Daisy, I would just go with that.

  • I don't think Daisy is necessarily too cutesie for an adult. I think it's a sweet name. I don't like Margaret, but you could always use the nickname Maggie. I love Greta!

  • Just use Daisy!  It's a cute name and is totally fine for an older woman.  I don't like the idea of "forcing" Margaret just to have that nn.  And I think using Daisy as a nn for Greta is a huge reach.

  • I like greta, but love daisy. Go for it and use the name you love! Btw, my grandparents called me daisy when i was young and anyone who heard it would comment on how pretty it was not knowing that it wasn't even close to my real name. I think that they go
  • It's too much of a stretch, IMO. I'd just keep it simple and name her Daisy. It's a lovely name! :)

  • I think it's sort of a reach.  I'd either do Daisy OR Greta, not both.  Daisy doesn't really bother me as a fn.

  • IMO, a nickname does not necessarily have to be derived from the given name. If you want to use Greta and call her Daisy, I see no reason why you couldn't or shouldn't.

Use the name you love. No matter what name you choose someone will have an issue with it.

  • Thanks for the feedback, everyone. At this point, our plan is to go to the hospital with a few names (Daisy, Greta, and whatever else we decide we like) and see which suits her best.

I love Daisy Louise, it was my great grandmothers name. Daisy is very popular in the UK so there will be a whole generation of adults named Daisy in 20 years, it won't be crazy.
