Tummy Time Question

Hello Ladies!  Does anyone know of an alternative to tummy time?  DS absolutely hates it.  He cries the entire time, & only lifts his head a few times.  He does have reflux, & I have tried using a pillow or boppy to ease the pressure on his stomach, but its a fail.  Any ideas on how I can get the benefits of tummy time without placing him flat?  Thanks!

Re: Tummy Time Question

  • You can do your tummy time with him on your chest, or you could wear him. There are some schools of thought that actually don't believe in tummy time until the baby can reach that position on their own. GL!

  • In the early days I'd recline a chair all the way back and lay him on my chest. He seemed to have more tolerance for tummy time on momma and with a face to look at.

  • I agree with PP about tummy time on your chest. Tummy time doesn't have to be done for a long period of time, either. E still hates it about half the time, but he was like that before where he just couldn't stand it. I found that putting him in the carrie

  • I echo the pps suggestion. DS had wicked reflux and hated tummy time. Some days I literally did it in 30 second increments to try and get it in without making an already miserable baby even more miserable. Thanks to the limitations he had due to the reflu

  • Ditto what everyone else said. You can also use an exercise or yoga ball and carefully place him there while you support him and the ball. My little guy loves it.

Do you have a baby carrier like an Ergo?  Ergo time can double as tummy time.  It uses the same muscles. :)
