Introducing: Brian Lee

Brian Lee is here!  My water broke on 3/27 (Thank you, full moon!) and we made our way to the hospital.  Contractions were coming on fast and strong right away, and they got me into the birthing center and got us set up.

Unfortunately, not much went according to plan.  Between working the whole day until my water broke, the 18 hour labor, and the 3 hours of pushing, I was exhausted. I ended up asking for an epi, which I was against to begin with.  My body did NOT react well to that.  I struggled with that for a while, then it just suddenly stopped working.  They had me try to push for 3 hours, and he kept TRYING to make his way out, but he was pretty stuck.  I had vomited 3-4 times, even though I hadn't eaten anything in over 20 hours.  His heart rate kept dropping to 70-75 each time I pushed, so they had me change positions.  It was a little better, but he was still not a happy boy in there.  They decided it was time to call a STAT C Section, and within a few minutes I was being rolled into the surgical suite.

Because the epi and I didn't get along, they did a spinal for the c section.  It was such a relief when it kicked in.   Very quickly, they started the surgery and DH and I chatted with the doctors about the surgery.  I compared notes with the doctor about how similar the surgery was to a dog spay (I work at an animal shelter, it was bound to happen!)

Brian Lee was FINALLY born at 2:26 PM on 3/28.  He's happy and healthy and perfect.  We're still working on the "You have to stay awake to breastfeed" thing, but I think we will get it soon enough.  They are letting me go home tomorrow- I can't wait.

Pictures soon, I promise!
